PA-46 Piper Malibu/Mirage/Meridian Initial Training
My PA-46 Initial Training is designed to transition you quickly and safely into the Malibu, Mirage or Meridian. The 3 Day scenario based syllabus is approved by the leading aviation insurance companies. The program is intended for current IFR rated pilots who are upgrading to the pressurized Piper. The training includes 3 hours of airplane familiarization and 10 hours of short cross country flights in your Malibu, Mirage or Meridian and 10 hours of ground training. The cross country flights are planned to expose the new PA-46 pilot to a myriad of "real world" scenarios. Short field operations, high altitude flight, changing weather patterns, and late descents all happen in normal operations. Why should your training be any different? As an A&P mechanic, I delve a bit deeper into the airplane's system than the average flight school. I utilize PowerPoint slides and maintenance manuals to give you an in-depth understanding of your new airplane. Of course, we will review all the systems on your plane, but we will pay particular attention to correct engine operation. Upon successful completion of the initial PA46 or PA46T course you will receive a Certificate of Completion and endorsements for the Bi-annual Flight Review, Instrument Proficiency Check and High Altitude Operation (Meridian only). The cost is $2995 for the 3 day initial program. For pilots that need simulator training to get up to speed in IFR operations, an additional fee of $595 per day will be charged.
Training Outline Ground School
Aircraft Systems (Approximately 5 hours): Each aircraft system is discussed with emphasis on how it relates to everyday operations. Following my syllabus you will understand how each system interacts in both normal and abnormal situations. The systems discussed in the classroom include: Aircraft General, Engine, Propeller, Electrical System, Fuel System, Landing Gear and Brakes, Flight Controls, Environmental Systems, Weight/Balance, Performance limitations, Emergency Procedures, Flight Director/Autopilot Systems, Flight Instruments and Avionics, EFIS (if equipped), Weather Avoidance equipment, Autopilot Operations, Pressurization System, and the Anti-Ice and Deice Systems. A 40 question open book exam completes this module.
Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) and Risk Management (RM) will be reviewed as it pertains to operating the PA-46 family of aircraft. We will review the latest accidents and incidents pertaining to the Malibu or Meridian.
Initial Flight (2 Hrs): The first flight in your airplane is used to find the power settings and pitch attitudes which will be used for different flight maneuvers. We will continue with basic airwork which will include stalls, steep turns, and recovery from unusual attitudes.
Cross Country (8 Hrs): Flying cross countries is why you bought the airplane, so I place special emphasis on this phase of training. Each 2 hour flight begins with weather and fuel planning and a weight and balance review. We will file IFR and fly your aircraft at various altitudes. During flight we will review pressurization problems and emergencies, as well as engine failures. You will learn how to integrate the F/D and autopilot as well as learn how to use the avionics in your airplane (RM) as they pertain to these flights. Each flight will end with a series of precision or non-precision approaches. You will learn how to fly these approaches coupled to the auto-pilot, by hand using the Flight Director, and using just raw data. Once you are comfortable with the operating parameters and characteristics of your new plane, you will receive a BFR and an instrument proficiency endorsement. Additionally, you will receive a completion certificate with a copy being sent to your insurance company.
FEE: $1995.00
Recurrent Training
My 1 day Recurrent Training Program is designed to expose bad habits and instill safe operating practices in a minimum amount of time. We will do a brief review of the Malibu, Mirage or Meridian systems and design a flight based on your areas of concern. Whether it's holding procedures, stalls or GPS approaches, we will regain your confidence in your ability to fly this airplane in any situation. Our second flight will incorporate standard VFR and IFR approaches, minor system problems and full emergency simulations. This course requires that you be IFR current and have a good knowledge of the airplane systems. The training includes 4 hrs of flight training and 4 hrs of ground training.
FEE: $895.00
